Pumpkin Scones

Hygge can be tasty

In his book, The Little Book of Hygge, Meik Viking says “Getting your hands dirty by baking at home is a hyggelig activity that you can do by yourself or with friends and family. Few things contribute more to the hygge factor than the smell of freshly baked goods. The result does not need to look like something out of a Disney movie—in fact, the more rustic, the more hygge it is.”

Today I took the advice I gave yesterday and made something by hand. I made scones. Not just any old scones, I made the kind they sell at Starbucks. The tiny, pumpkin ones that you can’t stop eating.

I kneaded them by hand and let the Kraken and Dancer mix the frosting, so the word rustic was definitely appropriate. But the second they came out of the oven my entire family converged in the kitchen, pouring extra drizzle over them and chatting happily about their day between bites.

Hygge can come in all shapes and sizes. Tonight, it came in small pumpkin-flavored triangles.

What did I learn from this?

Baked goods make tasty memories.
