We found the Northern Lights in a sunset.
Fall is here and the nights are getting colder and longer. The Dancer, in her innocence, has been spotting the Northern Lights everywhere. Tonight she found them in a particularly vivid sunset. And it was beautiful.
You and I both know that these are not the Northern Lights. And no matter how many times I have tried to explain that to her, she keeps insisting that she has found them. But is there anything wrong with that?
And if we were to actually see the Northern Lights, how spectacular would that be for her little mind? Or mine, for that matter? To experience something so wondrous, so inspiring.
Those in the Nordic region have a bit of a front row seat for this event on a regular basis. And it begs the question: Does it change you to see something like that so often? Does it help to keep your heart a little more open; a little more willing to believe that life is beautiful and people are intrinsically good? To keep that sense of childhood wonder fresh in your mind? I like to think it does.
What did I learn from this?
